EV Roadmap

Since mid-2008, Portland General Electric (PGE) has shown leadership and initiative in developing a network of charging stations for plug-in hybrid electric and all-electric vehicles. PGE has worked with local businesses and governments to install nearly 20 charging stations in the Portland metropolitan region and in Salem to help jumpstart and test the transportation infrastructure needed to support plug-in vehicles.

Beginning in 2010, several automobile manufacturers will bring new all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to market.  Oregon will be center stage as an early test market.  Nissan and Mitsubishi have entered memoranda of understanding with the state of Oregon and PGE to deploy the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi iMiev.  Discussions with other international E.V. manufacturers are underway.  And our own homegrown companies, like Arcimoto and Brammo, are producing three- and two-wheeled vehicles for the market already.

The big news in 2010 is that Oregon has been selected as one five test markets for the largest rollout of electric vehicles and an associated charging station network in U.S. history. The state of Oregon and PGE are key partners with eTec and Nissan in an initiative that will bring hundreds of charging stations and electric vehicles to the Portland metropolitan, Salem, Corvallis, and Eugene corridor.  See PGE’s
